“Never, ever underestimate the importance of having fun.” – Randy Pausch
The state fair makes the list of things we need to do come every Autumn. It wasn’t always this way though, at least not for Evan.
The fair had always given Evan the creeps, but I grew up loving it. The games, the rides, the food, the sights – there’s really nothing like it here in Arizona. So every year when it rolled around, I remember begging my parents to take me.
When I grew up, I still loved going just as much, and I was determined to get Evan to fall in love with it too. It took a couple of years, but he now enjoys going just as much as I do. It’s fun to expose the ones you love to new and fun experiences, and we look forward to it every year. This year, we went in the early evening so we got to experience the fun in the day and at night. There’s something extra special about being amongst all of the sights and sounds of a fair at night time.
We rode a few rides (mostly the Sky Tram because we loved to sight see and people watch from above – is that creepy??) and indulged in a new-to-us novelty food item: a giant bratwurst wrapped in bacon and covered in peppers and onions. It made both of us feel too full and sick, but it tasted amazing! We also couldn’t resist the grilled corn on the cob. Nothing fried this year, but maybe next time. The fair is still going on for a few more days, so go have fun and make some memories!
Great photos! Next year we will join!
